The Commission is working on a concept called Venture Parks, with the idea to make improvements at ET Mahoney State Park, Platte River State Park, Louisville SRA and Schramm SRA. The goal is to treat these parks as a single unit. Each of the parks in the complex will include activities in a variety of zones, including a Discover zone, Explore zone, Excitement zone, Serenity zone, and an Imagination zone. We are excited about this project and what it will mean for families and kids; as well as what it means for sustainable funding and operation of our parks.
All together, this is a $35 M project. When we developed our biennial budget, we only included $6 M for ET Mahoney State Park because we were beginning to develop the concept. The Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation wants to help with these new and exciting developments in the Venture Parks and would like to begin a fundraising campaign for 80% of the costs of the project, or $28 M.
We are excited about the potential of this public/private partnership and would like to request an additional $29,151,000 in cash authority for this project for total cash authority of $35,151,000; with the understanding that the expenditure of agency sourced funds is limited $7.3 M and the remainder of will be donated funds raised by project supporters.
